Starting Area (T1–T2)

The biome where you wake up. Densely seeded with the four basics every new player needs: Lumber, Fibre, Scrap Metal and Water. About 20 distinct resource nodes spread across forest, meadow and shallow river edges. Mild weather, no hostile fauna for the first 24 in-game hours — the game eases you in here.

Park your van next to the river for free Water collection, then push outward in expanding loops. Read the full Starting Area guide →

Canyons (T1–T3)

Industrial biome — narrow rock corridors and abandoned infrastructure. This is where you transition from raw survival to crafting. Headline resources: Common Minerals, Electronics, Natural Rubber and Honey. About 25 nodes total.

Honey is non-obvious — it spawns near beehive trees and is required for several mid-game recipes. Bring a leveled axe because some Electronics nodes are gated behind dense foliage. Read the full Canyons guide →

Coast (T1–T4)

The widest biome by far (~27 resources). Headline materials are Glass, Hardened Metal, Casings and Strong Weave — the inputs for late-mid Workshop and Fabricator recipes. Coast also has the largest concentration of collectibles in the game.

Tide affects shoreline routes; some pickups only spawn at low tide between roughly 06:00–10:00 in-game. Read the full Coast guide →

Mountains (T2–T5)

Endgame biome. Only ~15 resources, but it is the only place in the entire game to find Rose Minerals (Tier 5), and the densest source of Adamant Metal and Chrome Ore. Cold, steep, and the ramps need upgraded suspension.

Do not arrive here without an Insulated Cabin module on your van — the heat drain is real and overnight stops are otherwise lethal. Read the full Mountains guide →

Recommended order

 1. Starting Area — finish T1 needs, get the first signal tower.
 2. Canyons — unlock Workshop tier, gather Electronics for the Fabricator.
 3. Coast — mid-game power up, glass for Solar Panels, hardened metal for upgrades.
 4. Mountains — endgame, Tier 5 materials, last signal tower.

Common biome questions

How many biomes are in Outbound?

Four. The complete list is Starting Area (Tier 1–2), Canyons (Tier 1–3), Coast (Tier 1–4) and Mountains (Tier 2–5). Mountains is the only biome with Tier 5 resources.

What is the recommended biome order in Outbound?

Starting Area → Canyons → Coast → Mountains. Each biome unlocks resources you need to survive the next one. Skipping ahead works but you will be undergeared for the higher-tier hostiles.

Which biome has the rarest resources?

Mountains. It is the only place to find Rose Minerals (Tier 5), Adamant Metal and Chrome Ore. You need late-game van upgrades and warm clothing before you camp there.

Can the van enter all biomes?

Yes — every biome has at least one drivable approach. Mountain peaks need an upgraded suspension; the deepest Canyon paths need taller tires.
