Outbound — Canyons (Chapter 2)
Industrial biome. Where you transition from raw survival to crafting. Electronics, Honey and the Workshop Tier 2 unlock are the headline rewards.
Chapter at a glance
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Biome | Canyons |
| Tier range | T1–T3 |
| Headline resources | Common Minerals, Electronics, Natural Rubber, Honey |
| Total resource nodes | ~25 |
| Signal tower | 1 (Canyons relay) |
| Reward at completion | Workshop Tier 2, Steel Axe schematic |
Objectives in order
- Drive from Starting Area to Canyons entrance. South route. Pin the Canyons relay on the map (see how to track landmarks).
- Set up forward camp. Park the van near the western Canyons river. Free Water source.
- Collect 6 Common Minerals + 4 Electronics. Electronics nodes are in abandoned infrastructure — use the pickaxe.
- Harvest 3 Honey. Beehive trees at dusk; requires Steel Axe. If you don’t have it yet, you can skip and return later.
- Gather 4 Natural Rubber. Rubber trees on the southern Canyons cliff face.
- Reach the Canyons relay signal tower. Interact to unlock the Workshop Tier 2 schematic.
- Build Workshop Tier 2 at your base. Cost: 4 Common Minerals + 2 Electronics + 6 Planks + 1 Honey.
- Craft Steel Axe. 2 Common Minerals + 1 Electronics + 1 Natural Rubber.
- Craft Evaporation Rack and/or Water Filter. Sets you up for the Coast.
Resource map (Canyons)
- Common Minerals — widely distributed; densest cluster on the eastern ridge.
- Electronics — abandoned industrial structures. Pickaxe required.
- Natural Rubber — southern cliff face, rubber-tap action with axe.
- Honey — beehive trees, dusk-only glow.
- Coal — surface coal seams; densest in any biome.
Common pitfalls
- Going in with the Big One — several Electronics corridors are too narrow.
- Trying to harvest Honey with the Starter Axe — the bees flee with no harvest.
- Skipping the relay signal tower — it gates the Workshop Tier 2 schematic.
Transition to Chapter 3 (Coast)
With Workshop Tier 2, Steel Axe and Evaporation Rack ready, drive east from the Canyons relay toward the Coast lighthouse. The Coastline trader awaits there.
Common Chapter 2 questions
How long is the Canyons chapter?
Roughly 4–6 in-game days. The biome is dense but narrow — use Pathmaker if you have it, otherwise Classic. Big One often cannot fit the narrow Electronics corridors.
Where do I find Honey in Outbound?
Beehive trees in the Canyons. They glow amber at dusk. Chop them with at least a Steel Axe — the Starter Axe scares the bees off without harvest.
Why is the Workshop Tier 2 important?
It unlocks Steel Axe, Evaporation Rack, Water Filter and the second-tier suspension. Without it you cannot progress to Coast meaningfully.
