Recommended Coast route

  1. Arrive with Workshop T2 + Steel Pickaxe + Steel Axe (see Canyons).
  2. Park at the East Lighthouse promontory — flat, drivable to all three towers within ~5 in-game min.
  3. Day 1 dawn: low-tide Strong Weave + Salt + dawn Pearl fishing.
  4. Day 1 day: shipwreck Hardened Metal run, west pier signal tower.
  5. Day 2: Coastline trader (sells Strong Weave + Casings for Pearls), east tower, mid-cliff tower.
  6. Day 3: Glass stockpile → unlock Fabricator + Reinforced tools.

The Coastline trader

The trader is a peaceful NPC parked at the East Lighthouse beacon. He buys Pearls from you for blueprint pages and sells Strong Weave, Casings and Salt for Biofuel. He does not move; you can save and reload to refresh his inventory once per in-game day. Many players come expecting to buy Pearls — he doesn't sell them.

Tide and pickup windows

Tide cycles once per day. Low tide runs roughly 06:00–10:00 in-game. During this window the kelp shallows expose Strong Weave nodes and additional Salt tide pools. At high tide these are submerged and uncollectable. Plan the morning Coast loop around low tide.

Signal towers

Three towers — the East Lighthouse (the largest, requires Hardened Metal), mid-cliff (requires Glass) and west pier (requires Casings). Powering all three is a prerequisite for the Settler ending. See Signal Towers.

Common questions

What is the Coast biome in Outbound?

The third and largest biome — ~27 distinct resources across cliffs, beaches, kelp shallows and shipwreck zones. Tier range T1–T4. This is the mid-game power-up biome where you stockpile Glass for Solar and Hardened Metal for Reinforced tools.

Where do you find Hardened Metal in Outbound?

In the Coast biome, around the shipwreck zones. About 12 nodes total, all needing the Steel Pickaxe to mine. The richest cluster is at the half-buried freighter on the west shore.

How do you get Pearls in Outbound?

Fish from the Coast piers between 06:00 and 10:00 in-game. Pearls have a ~3% drop rate at dawn and ~0.5% at other times. The Coastline trader buys them for blueprint pages.

Does the tide affect the Coast biome?

Yes — some pickups (Strong Weave kelp, certain shells) only spawn at low tide between roughly 06:00 and 10:00. The tide cycle runs once per in-game day.
